Lee Konitz
Alto saxophonist Lee Konitz (b.1927 Chicago, Illinois) is a jazz legend. A protégé of the influential pianist Lennie Tristano, he developed a style parallel to that of Charlie Parker. Konitz was a member of the historic 1949 Miles Davis Birth of the Cool recording sessions, and went on to work with the Claude Thornhill and Stan Kenton big bands. Konitz’s playing ranges from bebop to the Avant-garde; a few of the musicians he has performed and/or recorded with in the last decades are Gerry Mulligan, Dave Brubeck, Bill Evans, Martial Solal, Elvin Jones, Kenny Wheeler, Charlie Haden, Paul Motian, Kenny Werner, and Bill Frisell.
